Art Eye: Study after Velázquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X, Francis Bacon

Hey Everyone! So so so sorry I haven't posted in about 2 weeks, it has been pretty hectic. So I am doing two posts this week to compensate(yay).
Study after Velázquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X, 1953

So, this is a painting by Francis Bacon, in which he has taken a famous painting by Velazquez, and re interpreted it, which is something Bacon did a lot. In this painting, Bacon has made it feel nightmarish, with the use of the black background, and the line of painting running vertically down the painting. These lines remind me of scratches or slashes, and add a gothic feeling, and adding to the unnerving feeling of this painting. The pope is screaming in this painting, yet it is almost covered up by these slashes, the only really bold feature being the open mouth of his scream.

So, I had so much fun making myself look like a raccoon as the first step of this makeup. I used a Rimmel Kohl eyeliner pencil in Black and smudged it all over my lid, and a bit underneather. I then took the black eyeshdow colour from the Sleek Storm Palette and went over the top, winging it out a bit. I then tightlined my eye using the same black pencil. I used my snazaroo facepaint, to do these yellow lines, the face and the chair on my uppe and lower lid.I then took a purple eyeshadow (from some boots christmas palette which is a few years old) and filled in the gap on the lower part of the lid. And finally I used the 'They're Real' mascara from Benefit.

And that is it! I was a bit worried about actually painting a face on my lid, but I think it turned out okay in the end. Thanks for reading, and as always feel free to leave a comment or request on here, or on any of my social media pages.
