Santa's Sleigh!

Hey everyone! It's the last day of blog advent which means it's Christmas Eve! I wanted to end this doing something I do best, painting tiny things on my eyelid. I was so happy with my Starry Night eye I did a few days ago, I wanted to incorporate it in this one, because it kinda fits in.

And so that is my last post of my blog advent! I'm kinda sad that it's ended but it just makes me want to keep up with regular blog posts now. Hope you all have a very merry Christmas and an amazing New Year!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Jamie Oliver's Mince Pies!

Hey everyone! Today is the 23rd day of the blog advent and I wanted to show you my absolute favourite mince pie recipe! I first saw this on Jamie's Christmas show a couple of years back and we instantly went out, bought all the ingredients and started making them straight away. After a couple of years making them, we have adjusted it to our own liking mainly because we are a bit boring in our tastes, but we take recipes as suggestions anyways. I'll include both versions anyway, because they are both just as nice and it's only minor changes.

Ingredients:
(I have marked the parts I have omitted in our recipe with an *)

  • 100 g good-quality mincemeat (we actually use double, around 200 g)
  • 25 g dried cranberries or blueberries , chopped *
  • 2 clementines , zest of
  • 1 splash sherry or brandy *
  • flour , to dust
  • 250 g puff pastry
  • 1 pack filo pastry
  • 50 g butter , melted
  • 1 free-range egg , beaten
  • 50 g flaked almonds
  • icing sugar , to dust

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C/400ºF/gas 6.
Scoop the mincemeat into a mixing bowl and mix in the clementine zest (as well as the dried berries and the sherry or brandy if you using any)

Dust a clean work surface with flour and roll out the puff pastry into a big rectangle about 20cm x 40cm and the thickness of a pound coin. (I didn't have to roll mine out because it was already this shape and thickness, but if you have a block puff pastry make sure you get it to the right length so you can get as menay pies out as possible). Thinly spread the mincemeat over the pastry, leaving a 1cm gap around the edges. (Clearly I don't know what 1cm means!)

Tightly roll up the pastry, lengthways, like a Swiss roll, place it on a floured tray, and pop in the fridge to firm up.

Take two cupcake trays (for 12 cupcakes each) and butter each one lightly with the melted butter. (Cupcakes trays are key here, you don't want muffin trays as they are too deep and big, cupcake trays have quite small and shallow holes, perfect for these pies).

Place one layer of filo pastry over the tray (you may need more than one sheet to cover each tray depending on the size of the sheets) and ease the pastry into each hole. Brush with the melted butter, then cover with a second layer of filo pastry. Brush with butter again.

Take the puff pastry roll out of the fridge and, with a sharp knife, cut it into 24 slices. Place each slice, flat-side down, into a filo-lined hole. (A hint from my mother, to make sure you get 24 pieces, don't just free hand it, cut the roll in half, and then half each of those pieces. Once you have 4 pieces, you know you need 6 slices from each part. I went on to half these pieces again and just cut those into three because it's easier.)

Brush with the egg and sprinkle a few flaked almonds on top of each little pie, then pop both trays in the oven for about 25 minutes, until cooked and golden brown.

Leave to cool, then crack the individual pies out of the trays. Dust with a little icing sugar before serving.

PS You can freeze the cooked, cooled mince pies in their trays (just wrap the lot in cling film) or in a plastic container. Just reheat them in a hot oven straight from the freezer.

And that is Jamie Oliver's Recipe! These mince pies are so tasty and are something different from the traditional pies (which I still love). Also these mince pies are easier to make, seeing as you can just buy the pastry and then it's just mixing in stuff and spreading it over pastry. We don't include the alcohol because of younger relatives, and not everyone in our family love cranberries so we don't put in berries either. Either way these are really nice, and look really rustic so would make a great centre pie-ce (see what I did) to any Christmas meal!

Hope you give these a try yourself, if you do, tag me on instagram or twitter so I can see them. Don't forget to check back tomorrow for my last blog post of my blog advent calendar!

    Green Liner

Hey everyone! Day 22 of the blog advent and today I thought I would do something a bit more trendy but with a christmas edge. I came up with this big green winged liner, bold brows and a soft pink lip.

    PRODUCT LIST
Nivea Men After Shave Balm as Primer
L'Oreal True Match Foundation in N1
Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in Ivory
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparent
    Sleek Brow Kit in Light
    Collection Brow Definer in Blonde
    Rimmel Eye Primer
Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow in Touch Me
Rimmel Scandaleyes Mono Eyeshadow in Serene
Sleek Garden of Eden Palette Shades Tree of Life and Gates of Eden
    L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene Mascara
Natural Collection Blush in Peach Melba
    Makeup Revolution Highlighter in Exhale
Collection Cream Puff Lip Cream in Cotton Candy

I really enjoy doing colour winged liner, I think it's something subtle that can add a lot of interest into a look. I usually do a navy liner when I want to do something coloured, but this dark green works really well, and adds a hint of Christmas to your makeup without going for a full on green smokey eye.

    Christmas Makeup!

Hey everyone! Day 21 and I thought I would show you what I would typically go for, makeup wise, on Christmas Day. To me, Christmas Day is when you would go for the red lip, and gold eyes, proper festive makeup. This would look nice on Christmas Eve as well, maybe if you are going carolling or doing something special!

     PRODUCT LIST:
    Rimmel Stay Matte Primer
    L'Oreal True Match in N1
Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in Ivory
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparent
    Sleek Brow Kit in Light
    Collection Eyebrow definer in Blonde
Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Eternal Gold
    Sleek Vintage Romance Palette
    L'Oreal Super Liner
    L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene Mascara
Body Shop Colour Crush Eyeshadow in Coconuts About You
Natural Collection Blush in Peach Melba
Makeup Revolution Highlighter in Golden Lights
Rimmel Lip Liner in Red Diva
L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Scarlett Creme

This is actually a pretty simple makeup but really effective. If you didn't want to go so bold with the eyes this would look nice with all matte neutral shades to give slight definition and a winged liner. This is one of my favourite lipsticks for the Christmas time because to me, it is the perfect Christmas red and is really comfortable to wear because it is more of a gloss formula.

Hope you enjoyed today's post! Don't forget to check out my facebook page for updates on my blog posts!

    A Day In London

Hey everyone! Day 20 of the blog advent (only 4 more days to go now!) and yesterday I spent the day in London and took some really nice photo's so I thought I would share them with you!

I had a really nice day in London sight seeing and meeting up with my family from America to spend some times with them. London is so pretty this time of year, and it wasn't that busy this weekend! I had been on the London Eye before but I loved going to St. Paul's Cathedral because it was so beautiful inside but it's actually really interesting when you learn about the history of the architecture and the history of the building.

    Starry Night

Hey everyone! Day 19 of my advent calendar and a bit more of a creative look today. I've seen so many festive eye looks on Reddit and Youtube, and I have to admit, they are stealing my thunder a little bit. I had all these looks planned but they seem to be so popular this year so I wanted to take it back a notch. I thought, instead of going all out, bells and whistles, I would take it back to being really simple but still impactful. Instead of going with the candy cane, red and green festive eye makeup I wanted to be a bit more subtle.

So I took inspiration from a few things for this look. One of my favourite books as a child was sort of Christmas/Winter related, it's called Penguin Post and it's all about a penguin, Milo who is from a family of post penguins. He has to deliver the post as his parents look after his soon to be baby brother. The last parcel he delivers is to a star and is a small bottle of tiny stars which she scatters around the sky. The illustration is so beautiful in the book and always reminds me of cold Christmas evenings.

The other thing that inspired me was the art works of one of my favourite Christmas songs, 'Christmas Lights', by Coldplay (fun fact, this song was actually released on my birthday in 2010). The artwork is by a Japanese Artist, Yu Matsuoka Pol, who prints and paints using oil paint. The artwork for this looks like stars in the sky, but of course, because of the song, is Christmas Lights in London. It reminded me of this illustration and made me want to create this starry eye with a blue, watercolour looking base.

So after the incredibly long introduction, let's just have a look at the makeup!

Although this is really simple, I absolutely love this! I love how it is still festive but not in an obvious way. Hope you enjoyed this post, and check back tomorrow for another Christmas blog post!

P.S - Just a disclaimer, of course you don't want to get anything that isn't suppose to be in your eyeball in your eye so be careful when using small things like this on your eye. I knew I wasn't going to be wearing this for long but I still made sure to be leaning forward to that I couldn't accidently drop anything into my eyeball and used caution when applying. It isn't as much as a risk with these because they are quite large but things like glitter should always be cosmetic grade when it is going onto your eyelid because having craft glitter in your eye can be incredibly dangerous. If you are ever using a material that hasn't been tested on skin for avant garde makeup, make sure that you can easily take it off and that if is starts to feel weird on your skin you remove it immediately, no instagram picture is worth inflamed skin or going blind in one eye.

    Simple Vampy Christmas Makeup

Hey everyone! Day 18 of my advent calendar and I am continuing with another makeup look that is appropriate for any event in the festive season! This time I wanted to use a dark burgundy lip with soft eyes to show that you can still look killer without heavy eye makeup. I mentioned this lipstick in my Everyday Winter Makeup, and I've just been waiting to feature it in a blog post since. I love this colour so much, and it's a matte texture which I prefer. As it is a really bold deep red, vampy colour I thought I would tone the eyes done a bit so the lip is more of a statement, so I did a soft, taupe shimmery eye with a soft smokey winged liner.

    PRODUCT LIST
L'Oreal True Match Foundation in N1
Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in 010 Ivory
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparent
Body Shop Colour Crush Eyeshadow in Chocolate Linger
Natural Collection Blush in Peach Melba
Makeup Revolution Radiant Powder in Exhale
    Sleek Brow Kit in Light
    Rimmel Eye Primer
Stila Eyes Are The Window Palette in Soul, Shades Heart, Thought, Kitten and Essence
    L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene Mascara
Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Vamp

I really love this look, it's not as bold as I would go with the eyes, but I actually love this lip colour on me. This is a good look for people who love a bold lip but don't want to go full on glam. I think smokey wings are a really good alternative to liquid or gel liner because they are soft but still defining and you can be a bit messy because it is smudge anyway. Hope you are enjoying this advent, don't forget to check me out on my social media sites to keep update with my blog and life!

    L'Oreal Christmas Gift Box

Hey everyone! Day 17 of blog advent and I decided to do this post out of the blue today. I needed some more of my L'Oreal True Match Foundation and so I ordered it online because I know my shade, and I saw that they were doing a free gift box with every £15 you spend on L'Oreal products so I also orders a lip product to get the free gift. It got delivered yesterday and I thought, I basically have enough to create an entire look so I should do a first impressions post about it.

So in the gift box you get four full sized products, if you remember my last year Christmas Haul I did get the L'Oreal Gift Box then and it was based more around red and a more pin up look. This year it is based more around green and a feline smokey look. I don't usually go for green for my eyes because I have blue eyes I don't know if it really works with my eye colour, but my goodness the olive green shade is so pretty I had to try it out anyway. I was really impressed with this year's box because it had the super liner in, and I have been eyeing this liner for so long and I am so excited to have it because it's so fine and great for thin liner or intricate designs.

On the back of this box is a little design of an eye look which I tried to copy but just ended up doing my own thing. I started by putting the green shade on the mobile lid, then putting the taupe shade in the crease and putting the black in the outer corner and lower lash line and highlighting with the lightest shade in the inner corner. Then I tried to copy the liner which just always ends up turning into the liner I do all the time. Applied mascara and I am seriously impressed with this mascara. The wand reminds me of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and I really love it, works well with my lashes. I paired the eyes with my new L'Oreal Infallible 24h Lip Colour, which has serious staying power and comes with a balm which makes it more comfortable to wear.

    PRODUCT LIST
    Rimmel Stay Matte Primer
L'Oreal True Match Foundation in N1
Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in 010 Ivory
    Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
Natural Collection Blush in Peach Melba
Body Shop Colour Crush Eyeshadow in Coconuts About You (as contour)
Makeup Revolution Radiant Powders in Exhale
    Sleek Brow Kit in Light
    Rimmel Eye Primer
L'Oreal Colour Riche Eyeshadow Quad in Jungle Jade
    L'Oreal Super Liner
    L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene Mascara
L'Oreal Infallible 24H Lip Colour in Toujours Teaberry

I am really liking this eyeshadow on me, I think because it's slightly olive and a lot of the shades have gold shimmer in it works with my eye colour. I was really impressed with the shadows pigmentation because my experience with eyeshadow quads hasn't been good, usually they are pigmented and go muddy together but this quad is really impressive. I did experience some fallout, but it wasn't too bad and it swept away easily.  I am most impressed with the liner because it is so small you can get such a precise line and it going to make getting thin liner so much easier. I think this lip really compliments to look as well, and I would really recommend these as a long lasting lip colour if, like me, you can't afford liquid lipsticks.

Leave me a comment telling me your favourite L'Oreal Product, and don't forget to check back tomorrow for another blog post!

    Cranberry Eye and Nude Lip

Hey everyone! Day 16 of the blog advent today. I did this smokey red 'cranberry' makeup, so I thought I would share it with you because I think it is a really nice look for a Christmas Party or meal or just a casual trip to the shops obviously! I think this works for people who aren't to into the whole Christmas thing but still want to look like you put some effort into looking festive. This would be really nice paired with a Little Black Dress. I thought I would go with a nude for the lips because the eyes are quite intense.

    PRODUCT LIST:
Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in 51 Light Vanilla
Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in 010 Ivory
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparent
    Sleek Brow Kit in Light
Kiko Long Lasting Eyeshadow Sticks in Shade 37
Sleek Storm Palette Shades Calm Before the Storm, Eye of the Storm, Dust Storm and Black Out
L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes So Couture Mascara
    Rimmel Scandaleyes Black Kohl Pencil
Collection Bronze Glow Matte in Terracotta
    Makeup Revolution Highlighter Palette
    Makeup Revolution Matte Blush Palette
Makeup Revolution Amazing Lipstick in Nude

Also, I don't know why one of my eyes always likes to get red and watery whenever I do one of these for my blog, it's like it just doesn't want me to look nice. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this post and try out a cranberry eye, I know that red eyeshadow is kinda scary but as long as you balance it out with black liner, you won't look ill! Don't forget to check out my social media, and feel free to leave a comment. See you tomorrow with another blog post!
